Sport Performance

Therasports Counseling specializes in working with high achieving athletes that might be dealing with sports anxiety, depression, self-esteem, decreased motivation, sports injuries, mental blocks, grief and loss, or any other trauma/issues that might be affecting an individuals performance on and off the field.

In addition, TheraSports Counseling offers performance counseling which is geared to help athletes at all levels achieve their goals and become the best and healthiest person they can be.

Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) is traditionally regarded as a treatment for trauma but research has shown that it is also highly effective in enhancing performance, motivation, self-esteem and reducing sport anxiety.  This is different from traditional talk therapy, the protocol is based on the science of how your brain processes information, emotion, and motivation.

Having been a Division 1 collegiate athlete I know and understand the daily stress and pressure placed on athletes to perform at an elite level. Having this first hand knowledge as a soccer alumni and clinical therapist, I am able to better support you as you navigate through this important time in your life.

How EMDR can help with Sport Performance:

  1. Overcoming Mental Blocks: EMDR addresses deep-rooted beliefs, negative self-talk, and emotional barriers that hinder an athlete’s performance. By reprocessing these obstacles, EMDR helps athletes overcome mental blocks, enabling them to perform at their peak potential.
  2. Enhancing Focus and Concentration: Through the bilateral stimulation used in EMDR, athletes learn to enhance their focus and concentration skills. This promotes the ability to maintain high performance even under pressure, leading to consistent and improved results.
  3. Reducing Performance Anxiety: Many athletes struggle with performance anxiety, which can negatively impact their performance. EMDR helps identify and reprocess the underlying causes of anxiety, allowing athletes to develop better coping techniques and robust mental resilience.
  4. Building Confidence and Self-Efficacy: EMDR allows athletes to reprocess past failures, trauma, or negative experiences that may undermine their confidence. By reprogramming these memories, EMDR helps build a solid foundation of belief in oneself, enhancing overall self-efficacy and future success on and off the field.

EMDR has become a game-changer in the field of sport performance enhancement, offering athletes a unique approach to overcome obstacles, improve focus, and excel in their chosen disciplines. As passionate EMDR clinicians, we take pride in helping athletes harness their true potential and achieve peak performance. Join us on this incredible journey of self-discovery and transformation, where the power of EMDR propels athletes toward excellence.
