Alma Gardarsdottir, LCSW – EMDR Certified Therapist | Sports Counselor | Trauma Specialist

Meet Alma Gardarsdottir, LCSW, the Clinical Director and Owner at Therasports.  With over nine years of experience as a licensed clinical social worker, I specialize in trauma therapy, EMDR, Brainspotting, and sports performance counseling for children, teens, adults, and athletes across Georgia. Alma is also licensed in South Carolina, Indiana, and Wiscounsin.

As a former Division I soccer player and youth national team athlete for Iceland in both soccer and basketball, Alma understands the unique pressures athletes face mentally, physically, and emotionally. After experiencing two ACL recoveries and post-concussion syndrome, she developed a deep appreciation for how injuries and setbacks can impact confidence, identity, and overall well-being. These personal experiences, combined with her professional training in athlete mental health, inspired Alma to create TheraSports Counseling, a space where athletes can heal, rebuild, and reach their full potential both on and off the field.

Before founding TheraSports, Alma spent eight years at a Child Advocacy Center, helping children and families recover from trauma. Alma is a Certified EMDR Therapist and trained in Brainspotting, TF-CBT, HeartMath, and DBT, integrating a holistic, evidence-based approach tailored to each client’s needs.

Today, Alma helps clients overcome trauma, anxiety, performance blocks, injury trauma, and self-doubt through compassionate, strengths-based therapy. Whether you’re an athlete, parent, or individual seeking support, Alma is here to help you build resilience, confidence, and balance in both life and sport.
